We started KWANU to change how grocery shopping was done. Everyday low prices (really), a simple online shopping experience, and all the convenience of collecting your order.

Our research suggested people wanted the confidence of knowing that what they had ordered would be in their parcels, and we’ve achieved that 99.9% of the time.

We based ourselves in a community, Westville, so we could meaningfully give back and be a positive contributing member of a community. To date we’ve given over R12 000 to the community organisations who joined up to the KWANU Community Rewards programme.

7 Months in, as we look back, we’re more than satisfied that we’ve been able to deliver all of that for hundreds of customers.

HONOUR THE END AND END WITH HONOUR

However, we’ve also discovered that while we have been growing, it hasn’t been fast enough to be sustainable into the future. Having spent the past 4 months meeting with potential investors and re-working our business model, we’ve made the decision to close KWANU at the end of February.

The team is devastated by this decision as we’ve worked hard to realise the KWANU dream.

We’ll take final orders on Thursday 20 February 2020 before 14:00, for collection on Friday between 14:00-18:00.

Most important of all are the customers and friends we have met along the way. Thank you for believing in KWANU and the team, through your shopping support. We hope we’ve enriched you as much as you have us, and that the KWANU dream will remain with you, as a model of what shopping can and should be: Simple, Fast, and Convenient.

KWANU LIVES ON

As we take a pause to find a model that is sustainable, we’re going to keep the KWANU Community Initiative running. We’ve built some great relationships with community based organisations, and we will use the KWANU platform to offer community based organisations a platform to raise money for their causes, by using our technology for people to buy much needed items that keeps these organisations doing the amazing work they’re doing.

From 1 March, we’ll have re-purposed the KWANU site to cater for this initiative, and we encourage our existing customers and friends to stay connected and involved through this initiative. More details will follow in time.
